This is the information home for parents that want to help their children make the journey from grass roots football to academy football. It's also for anyone that aspires to be associated with academy football and wants to know more about academies and how they operate.
It's also for the clubs, managers, coaches and scouts to indirectly communicate with players and parents, helping them understand the needs of parents and players but also set out the clear expectation placed upon them.
As we develop our media offering we aim to elevate the value of academy operations which we believe are significantly undervalued by clubs.
Initially we are focused on offering advice and information to the parents and guardians of young talented footballers hoping to be scouted and those that already have been.
If you are scouted, you are in for an exciting ride of receiving the best in coaching, developing super fitness, meeting stars of the football world and enjoying a bit of kudos from your friends.
We are also helping academies communicate indirectly with parents by acting as an information source. We can explain issues frankly and honestly and set expectation with parents and players which some clubs might prefer not to do. We also ask the questions parents want to ask but feel awkward because they don't want to compromise their child's opportunity.
This website is based on real experience of being scouted and journeying through the academy system, so initially it has a southern England bias because that's where we live. As the site grows, we will explore the rest of the UK and European clubs.
Why is There a Need for an Academy Website?
When your child is first scouted and offered a trial it’s a WOW moment but there is nothing to prepare you and your family for the experience that lays ahead - hopefully lasting for at least eight to ten years.
Football Academy.Info is run by a parent who started the academy journey with his son from the development stage, ie just before their 7th birthday, and is set to experience the journey up until at least 18 years of age.
Speaking to parents I’ve met, in what you might call the academy community, it has become obvious to me there is a large communication gap between clubs and parents. It doesn’t matter if it’s a Premier League club or a lower division club - that gap exists. Some Premier League clubs choose not to be overly communicative with parents. Many lower league clubs try to differentiate themselves by being as communicative as possible but time and resource constraints limit their ability.
